Parking: You can easily park on the street near our location on Amsterdamsestraatweg. Unfortunately, we do not have our own parking facilities.

Access with a threshold At the entrance of our location on Voorstraat, there are thresholds, but we have a wheelchair ramp available that we can place over the threshold. Just let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist you.

Space between tables: Just like at the Amsterdamsestraatweg, the tables here are placed close together. If you inform us in advance, we’ll gladly make space for a wheelchair.

Parking: Parking is available at Janskerkhof (except on Saturdays and during events) or in the parking garage of Hoog Catharijne.

Public Transport: The nearest bus stop is Janskerkhof, just a 5-minute walk away.

At Gys, you’re always welcome to use the restroom (when we’re open). Tip: download the Hogenood app to quickly find the nearest restroom. The toilet at Gys is gender-neutral, and there are two restrooms available in the restaurant. Our restrooms are stocked with free pads and tampons.

The restroom at our Amsterdamsestraatweg location is wheelchair accessible. It is located on the ground floor, on the same level as the restaurant, and the space is large enough for easy use.

This location has a baby changing station with a changing pad but does not have a dedicated wheelchair-accessible restroom with the necessary features.

Gys Voorstraat - toilets

At our Voorstraat location, unfortunately, the restroom is not wheelchair accessible due to a threshold at the entrance to the restroom. The space is small, making it less suitable for wheelchair users.

Amsterdamsestraatweg - the calmer location

Our location on Amsterdamsestraatweg, on the other hand, is outside the city center and has a more relaxed vibe. The restaurant is more spacious, with plenty of room between tables, making it suitable for groups or anyone sensitive to noise or overstimulation. This spot is especially pleasant during lunchtime and early evenings if you’re looking for a more laid-back atmosphere. However, keep in mind that busyness can vary depending on the time. The peak moments at this location are from Thursday to Sunday afternoons.

Voorstraat - Busy and quiet times at this location

The Voorstraat location is situated right in the vibrant heart of Utrecht, making it a lively spot, especially from Thursday to Sunday afternoons. The tables are placed a bit closer together, creating a cozy but sometimes bustling atmosphere. Looking for a quieter moment? Consider visiting on Sunday evenings or during weekdays from Monday to Wednesday. These times are generally more peaceful, and one side of the restaurant has no speakers, making it less affected by music.
If you enjoy an early coffee or lunch, it’s often nice and quiet before 12:00. During weekdays after 8:00 PM, the busyness usually winds down as well. Please note, though, that we can’t guarantee complete tranquility—it remains a popular city-center location! When making your reservation, let us know that you’re looking for a quiet spot, and we’ll do our best to reserve a suitable table for you.

Assistance dogs are welcome.

Yes, at Gys, (assistance) dogs are always welcome! We do everything we can to make your loyal companion feel just as welcome as you do.

Good to know: at both locations, cats sometimes wander in to say hello. They’re used to people, but we understand that not every dog (or owner) may appreciate their visit. If you think this might be an issue, feel free to let us know in advance.

Menu in Braille?

No, unfortunately, we don’t have a menu in Braille. However, we’re happy to make sure you can still easily make a choice! Our team is always ready to tell you what’s on the menu and answer any questions you might have.

You can also view our menu on our website, which features a text-to-speech function, allowing the menu to be read aloud. This way, we aim to make our menu options as accessible as possible for everyone.

Dining at Gys with an allergy or dietary preference

At Gys, we’re happy to accommodate your allergies or dietary preferences. All our dishes are vegetarian by default and can be made fully plant-based. That means you won’t find any meat, fish, or shellfish on our menu. Allergies or intolerances to eggs, milk, or other animal products are no problem either.
